Baycats sweep Panthers to advance to Finals

BARRIE – In his two previous starts this season versus the Kitchener Panthers, Emillis Guerrero had clearly proven that he had their number.

Saturday night in Barrie was more of same as Guerrero shutdown the league most explosive offense limiting them to just two hits and a walk as he pitched a complete game as his Barrie Baycats eliminated the Kitchener Panthers in four straight games.

There was a time this season where the Panthers averaged ten runs per game but those days were nowhere to be found in the semi-finals as their bats could not solve what the Baycats pitching staff tossed at them.

The Panthers found themselves shutout twice in the four games and scored just six runs total in the series.

Guerrero improved to 3-1 in the post season while he struckout nine on the night.

Matt McGovern pitched well again for the Panthers like he’s done most of the season but came away with the loss. He allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits, he walked one and had a strikeout over six and an third of an inning pitched.

Kevin Atkinson had a solo home run while Jordan Castaldo had a pair of hits including a double and a run scored. Jeff Cowan added an RBI.

The Baycats now will wait to see who they will defend their championship against in the league finals as the London -Toronto series enters just the second game of the series Sunday afternoon at Dominico Field with a 2:00 p.m. Start
