NCBL Tier 3 Power Rankings

thumbnail_Dukes

The fiercest tier in the NCBL was back in action after the Victoria Day long weekend.  The Dukes used their long weekends to recharge the batteries after a lackluster start and went 3-0 this week while 4 teams went winless on the week.  The Tier is starting to shape up with 8 teams starting to pull ahead of the bottom 2 teams.  However, we’re still in the first month of the season so there’s lots of baseball to be played.

Numbers in parentheses indicate difference in that statistic since the previous week. Eg. (-3) in the DIF category would indicate that a team’s runs for/against difference has decreased by three in the past week.

Power Rankings

Rockets

The Rockets started the week with 2 wins, the first over the Black Sox and followed up that up with a dramatic extra innings victory over the Red Sox.  They end the week with their 2nd loss of the season when they ran up against a streaking Dukes team.

Mavericks

The Mavs were undefeated in their 2 games after a long 10 day stretch without a game.  They started off with a strong victory over the Lumberjacks and then rallied late to tie a game vs the Black Sox.

Sharks

The Sharks also had a long break in between games and showed a bit of rust when they squeaked out an 8-7 victory over the Bombers.  The followed that up with a tough loss to the upstart Lumberjacks.

Lumberjacks

Owners of the best run differential in the league can definitely put the runs in bunches.  The scrappy team will be fighting for home field advantage in round 1 of the playoffs all season.

Red Sox

The Red Sox were the least active team in the tier and ended up losing their only game in extra innings.  They drop 1 spot but they still haven’t played a game at their home field because of renovations.  This advantage will be a huge key to the Red Sox’ success this season.

Dukes

As predicted in the past 2 power rankings, the Dukes have begun their climb in the standings.  Lead by a core of NCBL veterans, the Dukes scratched out 3 wins on the week and will look to build on this momentum.  They only play 1 game this week and it looks promising for them to bring the streak to 4 in a row.

Acadiens

The Mooseheads drop another spot in the rankings after splitting their 2 games this week.  They beat the Bombers but lost to the Dukes.  They have now lost 3 of their past 4 games.

Black Sox

Black Sox are now winless in their past 3 games and lost vs the Rockets.  They blew a late lead versus the Mavericks to close out the week.

Capitals

An embarrassing loss to the Dukes on Victoria Day was followed up with a loss to the Jacks.  They give up a huge amount of runs and need to figure out their defense and pitching or they may face relegation.

Bombers

The Bombers are losing their games by small margins.  Once their bats come alive, they’ll be fighting for one of the final playoff spots but they can’t wait too much longer.

See you in 7 days for week 4!
